Born in Luxembourg and educated in New York, pianist and composer Francesco Tristano is as much at home in the world of the classical masters and jazz as he is in electronic and experimental music. A first-rate Bach player, he is recording all the keyboard works of the Baroque master, while he has creative energies to spare for electronic music: Francesco Tristano seeks the possibility of ecstasy in all kinds of music. He thinks piano and the synthesizer are the equals of each other, and it is natural for him to adapt electronic dance music from Detroit to the piano, or to use the possibilities offered by electronics to throw new light on the familiar sound of classical piano compositions. He performs with some of the finest symphony orchestras and he has collaborated with musicians from the most diverse genres, including Ryuichi Sakamoto, Michel Portal, Derrick May, Carl Craig and Jeff Mills.
