Olvadás (Thaw), Tibor Noé Kiss’s novel, is set in the spring of 2019 in a village in Baranya County, where a woman in her thirties, formerly a social worker, leaving her old life behind, starts a new one with her husband, a cultural anthropologist. However, their relationship is disrupted by two events: the man returns to Siberia to research the Khanty people, but finds himself facing an unexpected situation, while his wife is confronted with a death, which she tries to unravel on her own.
More than ever before, music was key to the creation of the novel, whose author looked upon Thaw as a musical composition. Tibor Noé Kiss originally wanted to put together a playlist as well, but eventually ended up asking musicians he found exciting to read his novel and create music inspired by it. The end result is an album comprising 13 tracks.
Hear the songs at the Margó Literary Festival, at an unprecedented literary-musical show where noise music, an organ piece, post-punk and disco songs alternate with readings and lots of improvisation.
