Arvo Pärt, one of today’s most popular composers, celebrates his 90th birthday in September 2025. The programme of the Budapest concert of his works includes such emblematic pieces as Spiegel im Spiegel, Tabula rasa, and Salve Regina, which was rearranged for choir, string orchestra and celesta in 2011. Silhouette, which was inspired by the structure of the Eiffel Tower and its creator’s distinctive way of thinking, occupies a special place in the oeuvre. And the concert, not to be missed by those who love Arvo Pärt, has yet another special treat in store: the new work by Estonian composer Riho Esko Maimets (1988), who attempts, in the manner of his older colleague’s artistic conviction, to respond to the world around us with answers that are intimate, honest and unvarnished. ‘Like in many of my recent works, I attempt to grapple with pain and sorrow,’ he said.
