The Gürzenich-Orchester of Cologne is one of the longest-standing German symphonic orchestras, which has been involved in the world premiere of many an important work, including both operas and concert pieces. In the 19th century, they gave concerts with such composers as Berlioz, Verdi and Wagner. At the Liszt Fest, they will be directed by Columbian violinist and conductor, Andrés Orozco-Estrada. The Budapest audience may well be familiar with the excellent conductor as he has appeared in the concert halls of Müpa Budapest and the Liszt Academy several times, as the guest of the Budapest Festival Orchestra and other ensembles. He is currently principal conductor of the Italian Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai, and is the general music director of the Gürzenich-Orchester from the 2025/2026 season. At the Budapest concert of the orchestra, he will conduct Brahms’ Symphony No. 2 and two compositions by Liszt that fit the description of concertos.
