This extensive exhibition presents the diversity of the historical Székely Land, from the embourgeoisement of the 19th century to modernisation in the 21st century. The objects and documents on view come to Budapest from the collections of major Székely museums, revealing outstanding artefacts formerly not seen in Hungary.
21st-century Székely Land defines itself as a unitary region in Romania. Its political and cultural history, economic development, educational and cultural institutions still make this ethnically defined region a unique and in many respects distinct entity within the borders of Romania, while maintaining a special position for itself within the Hungarian nation as a whole. Introducing three Romanian counties with Hungarian inhabitants (Harghita, Covasna, Mureş), the exhibition seeks to highlight the constant fluidity and natural dynamic of Székely culture.

The exhibition is on view from 11 October and 31 August.

This exhibition of the Liszt Fest is jointly presented by Müpa Budapest and Museum of Ethnography.
