Schumann: Piano Concerto in A Minor, Op. 54
Sibelius: Symphony No. 3 in C Major, Op. 52
Conductor: Nicholas Collon
Founded almost a century ago, in 1927, the Radion sinfoniaorkesteri (Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra) has been led by such great conductors over the past few decades as Paavo Berglund, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Sakari Oramo and Hannu Lintu. Since 2021, the English Nicholas Collon has been standing at the helm, becoming the first non-Finnish chief conductor the orchestra has had over its history. At this concert, which marks the Budapest debut of Radion sinfoniaorkesteri, the soloist in Schumann’s piano concerto will be the Canadian Jan Lisiecki, who started his career as a child prodigy. This will be an encounter the Hungarian audience has long waited for: Lisiecki’s first appearance in Hungary was cancelled in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. ‘I don’t like to talk about music. I believe in the natural flow of music and that it has a direct impact not only on the musicians but also on the audience,’ the pianist said recently.
